I am an artist who works mostly in oil paint and colored pencil. I love oil as a medium, for its richness and ability to create depth through layering. For several years I focused on still life painting. Never wanting to waste materials, if I ended a session with excess dabs of paint on my palette, I'd apply these to canvas and try to create something from the random marks. Eventually, these non-objective pieces drew me in more than a still life set up, and this "order from chaos" approach has guided my recent work. My aim is to create a recognizable image or simply a harmonious abstract composition. My pieces are typically inspired by the changing seasons, nature, or a great song. I hope to convey a sense of peace and touch of whimsy though my finished paintings. Consistently creating is a reminder of the beauty to be found in our world.
